William Harold Hannan “Bill”, 72 years old, passed away early Easter morning, April 5, 2026, due to several medical complications. He was born September 22, 1953, to William Moore Hannan and Helen Irene (Couchman) Hannan, in Lebanon, Indiana. The family moved from Lebanon, Indiana to Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1964, where Bill graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1972. In 1976, he married LaLony Smith, and they had three children.
Bill spent numerous years working for Cedar Valley Corporation doing road construction across the state of Iowa, and some of Nebraska. Bill moved back to Lebanon in 1998 and spent many years working for the Boone County Highway Department. He also worked for over 20 years with Contemporary Services Corporation, doing press box security for the Indianapolis Colts, retiring as a supervisor. He loved talking with the folks that worked in or visited the press box, and he boasted about not missing a Colts game for many seasons. Bill moved to Anderson, Indiana in 2020 to be closer to his kids, and he finished his career with NAPA Auto Parts.
He was an avid college basketball fan, a lifetime fan of the Indiana Hoosiers. The night before he died, he watched the Final Four tournament games that were played in Lucas Oil Stadium. He enjoyed traveling across the country and tried to get as many states as possible under his belt, and he was rarely seen without a huge jug of Diet Coke.
Bill is survived by his three children, Michelle Marie Hannan Poyner (Christopher), Melody Elizabeth Van Lengen (Robert), and William Micheal Hannan (Sha’la), eleven grandchildren, Autumn, Maddigan, Levi, Malcolm, Aveline, Lochlan, and Deaglan Hannan, and Kiley, Kendra, Hunter and Hayden Van Lengen, as well has his sister Linda Kennedy (Robert), two nieces, and many cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The wake will be held at 11 am, followed by a short service at 12:30 pm, on Friday April 10, 2026, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 504 W. Ninth Street, Anderson, Indiana 46016.
