William Thomas Burford, “BILL”, age 63, was born March 10, 1962, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He passed away June 24, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. Bill’s roots run deep in the community where he was raised, Lawrence, Indiana—and where he built a life full of meaning, warmth, and devotion.
He was the beloved son of the late Thomas Noel Burford and Susan Kay Shingleton Burford, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became.
Bill shared a loving marriage with Roberta “Bobbi” (Pickett) Burford, his partner and best friend of 40 years. Together, they built a beautiful family grounded in kindness, laughter, and unconditional love. He was a devoted father to three daughters: Amy Burford Bensheimer (husband Kurt), Amanda Burford Morgan (husband Michael), and Abigail Burford (partner Anthony Hicks). His pride and joy were his seven grandchildren—Kayden, Maddox, Alivia, Skylar, Mason, Molly, and Aliyah—whose smiles could light up his entire world.
Bill is survived by his sister, Ann (Burford) Bilodeau, her husband Marc, and his niece, Claire.
Bill graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1980, where he made a close group of friends who remained important to him throughout his life. He worked for nearly 40 years at Indianapolis Newspapers INC as a pressman and a production supervisor. For many of those years, he worked alongside his father, which meant a great deal to him. Bill was a dedicated worker who earned the respect of his coworkers and the people he supervised.
A passionate Harley-Davidson enthusiast, Bill found freedom on the open road and joy in the rumble of a good ride. He was a dedicated NASCAR fan and always cheered for Jeff Gordon on race day. Whether sharing a meal with friends or spending quiet moments with Bobbi, Bill found happiness in life’s simple pleasures.
Above all, Bill’s heart belonged to his family. He was their biggest fan, always showing up for games, events, and everyday moments. His love was steady, his presence constant, and his pride in them knew no bounds. He will be deeply missed.
