Vincent Joseph Posthauer

July 27, 1933 — October 10, 2024

Brownsburg

Vincent Joseph (Vince) Posthauer, 91, of Brownsburg, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to Vincent Herman Posthauer and Lucille (Grabman) Posthauer Frisz on July 27, 1933 in Zanesville, Ohio.

After graduating from Crawfordsville High School in 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea from 1953 – 1957 where he received a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. After a lengthy career as an insurance broker, Vince retired from Prudential Insurance. He then became owner and operator of the Pittsboro Pizza Shoppe for more than 25 year and was known as “The Pizza Man” to many in Pittsboro and the surrounding areas. He enjoyed serving pizza to the community and the relationships built over the years. His pizza was loved by all, especially his children and grandchildren. Whenever his children wanted to work alongside him for an evening shift, he insisted on making every pizza himself and only allowed those helping to make breadsticks and operate the cash register. With immense pleasure, he could recall repeat customers order by the smallest of nuances and even their order time. Through Pittsboro Pizza Shoppe, Vince donated many hours preparing pizzas for the Lions Club and Boy Scout fundraisers.

Vince also served his community by coaching girls softball in Brownsburg beginning in 1978. He managed and coached slow-pitch softball with his daughters and discovered a love for the game. He served as league President and served on the Board of Directors and lead a group of volunteers that built the first concession stand that was used for field upkeep, and general expenses. He was dedicated to the league for years after, would fondly recall specific games and plays in detail.

Survivors include his children, Lori Phillips of Carmel, IN; Vincent J. (Shawn) Posthauer, Jr. of St. Albans, WV; Cheryl (Mike) Weldon of Greenfield, IN; David (Jen) Posthauer of Elkhart, IN; Susan Posthauer of Bristol, IN.

Surviving grandchildren include Jenny Shore, Gregory Weldon, Aaron Weldon, Kristin Gray, Brandon Mishler, Brent Mishler, Nicole Mishler, Tori Posthauer, and Megan Posthauer. Great-grandchildren include Avery Shore, Cora Shore, Hudson Gray, Ellie Gray, and Fallon Weldon.

Vince was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two brothers Robert (Bobby) Posthauer (1944), Ed Posthauer (2015). Additionally, he was preceded in death by his first-born son, Gregory Bruce Posthauer (1979).

Vince will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Crawfordsville, IN.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the American Legion in Brownsburg.
