Tomas Ikeoka Gilson, of Reelsville, Indiana, has passed away at the age of 61 on November 7, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tomas was born on June 7, 1962, in Yamato-shi, Japan, and his father, who was a Marine, moved the family around the United States after leaving Japan, before finally settling down in Indiana in 1970.

Even at a young age, Tomas was always fascinated by the inner workings of machines and had an innate ability to fix anything that crossed his path. Renowned for his craftsmanship and troubleshooting skills, he tirelessly dedicated himself to ensuring that the facilities he maintained were running smoothly. His exceptional work ethic and unwavering commitment made him an invaluable asset as the maintenance supervisor for Putnam County's Courthouse and Jail for over 25 years.

However, Tomas was more than just a skilled technician; he possessed a vibrant personality that drew people towards him. Known for his lighthearted nature and quick wit, Tomas had a knack for spreading joy wherever he went. He loved to joke and kid around with his family and friends and had an uncanny ability to bring smiles to their faces.

When not immersed in his professional endeavors, Tomas found solace in pursuing his hobbies. He enjoyed barbecuing for his family and friends, and many people considered Tomas to be a grill master. Fishing also held a special place in his heart as it allowed him to reconnect with nature and unwind from the demands of daily life. Additionally, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time watching videos on YouTube as a means of entertainment and self-education. Lastly, Tomas had a deep love for the Lord, and his faith guided him throughout his life.

Tomas leaves behind a profound legacy rooted in love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife Dana (Lyons) Gilson, who stood by his side during times both good and bad. Their unbreakable bond was a testament to their unwavering commitment to one another.

He is also survived by his son, Zachariah Tomas Gilson and his wife Ruth along with their children Clark and Xenia; his daughter, Nakoa Tatianna Neeley and her husband Tim along with their daughter, Keoni; and two children who are living at home, a son, Landan James Gilson and a daughter, Jaydyn Kiayr Gilson. Tomas deeply treasured his role as a father and grandfather, always making it a priority to be present in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a true family man in every sense of the word.

Tomas was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Gilson, Jr. His mother, Tokiko Ikeoka Gilson, survives, and she played a significant role in shaping the person he became alongside his surviving brother, RoyAl Gilson and sister, Mary Gilson. Their shared experiences laid the foundation for strong family ties that provided Tomas with unwavering support throughout his life.

Although he is no longer physically present, Tomas' memory will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will forever be remembered as a hardworking individual who approached life with dedication, humor, and an unwavering love for his family. The impact he made on his family, friends, and community will be a lasting testament to his life.
