Thomas David Wesner

September 20, 1937 — December 24, 2023

Indianapolis

Thomas David Wesner (T. David) was born September 20, 1937 at St. Francis hospital in Beech Grove, IN to Homer and Christine Wesner.  He graduated from Arsenal Tech HS in 1955, where his interests were automotives and ham radio.  Dave worked at a local gas station and soda fountain shop before deciding to enlist in the Air Force in 1958.  During his 6 years in the Air Force CPT Wesner piloted both the B-47 and B-52 bombers, taking part in multiple bombing runs during the Vietnam War while assigned to Strategic Air Command.  CPT Wesner was also the sole survivor of a fatal B-47 crash at Lincoln, NE in 1961 which was attributed to mechanical failure.

While attending flight training in Topeka, KS Dave went on a blind date with a beautiful nursing student named Nadine Andersen.  They were married soon after and remained happily in love for 63 years.  Their 6 children include: Gay Ellen (Johnson,61/Dan), David Scott (59/Debbie), Andrew Scott (54/Jane), Jonathan Mark (50/Soraya), Joshua Thomas (47/Tara) and Stephen Daniel (39). To date they have 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

After his service in the Air Force Dave went to fly for United Airlines where he flew the Douglas DC-8 and DC-10 as well as the Boeing 727. He retired in 1997 having achieved Captain on multiple airframes and flying over 30,000 hours.

Dave’s greatest accomplishment and his legacy was his family.  Nothing on Earth was more important to him and no sacrifice was ever too big.  He used every day to set an example of God’s love to those around him and taught his children to love and follow the Lord.

He will be laid to rest on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Washington Park East Cemetery following a Memorial Service at Legacy Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 p.m.
