Sharon Glee Gerth

Sharon Glee Gerth, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 2, 2025. She was born on February 13, 1944, in Indianapolis, to the late Earl Homer(Bud) and Frances Mary Jean (Wallen) Messmore. Sharon graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1961 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Indiana University in 1997. She worked at a variety of places throughout her life that she passed on many stories about, including Indianapolis Power and Light, An ENT’s office (Dr. Wright), Cord Camera, Indianapolis Public Schools, and McGraw Hill among others. Sharon was a member of East 91st Street Christian Church dating back to its predecessing structure on E. 49th Street. She was a passionate member of their choir, as well as a member of Broad Ripple High School’s Golden Singers and performed in Madrigals while there.

Sharon loved to sing. It was her passion. From gospel hymns, to every song that could come on during a TV show you would watch with her, to commercials, or even radio… she would be inspired to sing, hum, or “do-do-do” right along with the notes. That passion carried into the freedom of karaoke, where she would belt out everything from Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” to “Copa Cabana” by Barry Manilow. She loved singing it all. She was well known in the Indy Karaoke circuit for her “go to” list of songs.

Sharon also loved participating at church, painting, drawing, and photography; the latter which she turned into a very successful wedding business utilizing manual effects and filters before the age of digital cameras. She was also very fond of her pets in her life, as she continuously remembered stories of them all, including her “grand-doggies” that Michael had and currently cares for over the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, mentioned above, Jeanne (1995) and “Bud”(1997).

Sharon is survived by her sons, Patrick Gerth (54) of Indianapolis, IN and Michael Gerth (52) (spouse-Leah), of Schaumburg, IL; grandchildren, Ava (8), Roman(5); extended family members Katie(step-granddaughter), Alex (step-grandson) and countless friends.

Funeral Services will be at 11am on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue, with a visitation starting at 10am. Graveside services at 1pm at Washington Park North Cemetery, 2706 Kessler Boulevard W. Drive.

Sharon’s Mother’s Day request, was to get a lot of flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Humane Society.
