Shannon Leah Austin, 49, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, after a lengthy health battle. She was surrounded by her family and best friends. Born on June 13, 1976, in Chicago, Illinois, to Paula (Adams) and Frank Austin, Shannon carried her Chicago roots proudly throughout her life.
A devoted and loving mother, Shannon’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Savanna Austin, Brenden Birkla (Alli), and Christian Birkla; and by her cherished granddaughters, Zarra and Bristol Birkla, who were the light of her life and affectionately knew her as “GiGi.” Shannon’s three beloved dogs—Minnie, Cleatus, and Zero—were also among her constant companions and sources of comfort.
Shannon will be remembered for her selfless heart, feisty spirit, and fun-loving nature. She had a gift for making people laugh and always showed up for those she cared about. A proud Indianapolis Colts fan, Shannon loved cheering on her team at Heavy’s with her closest friends, though she never stopped rooting for her hometown Chicago Bears.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paula Adams and Frank Austin; and her soul-pup Macy Nicole. She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, loyal pups, and countless family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Shannon’s legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her.
