Jesus welcomed Sarabell (fondly known as Sary/Sara) Brewer, of Indianapolis, Indiana and Mesa, Arizona, into eternal peace on November 14, 2024, at the remarkable age of 105 ½. She left us with a lifetime of treasured memories and the kind of legacy that will forever echo within the hearts of those who knew her best.
Sara was born on May 8, 1919 in Indianapolis, the last living child of Ralph Julius, Sr. and Sarah Belle “Sadie” (Karicher) Fausey. During her formative years, which began in Indianapolis, she also lived in Miami, FL and moved to Williamsport, PA to be with extended family, before returning to her place of birth.
As a young girl, Sara sang joyfully alongside her sister Evelyn on the radio, a fond memory from her youth that encapsulated her zest for life and connection to others through the beauty of song. This was just the beginning of a life dedicated to others, filled with acts of kindness and selflessness.
On June 10, 1938, Sara and Lou Brewer began their journey together in marriage, for 53 years, until Lou’s passing in 1991. Sara was a woman before her time, working full time outside the home, as an industrious and dedicated telephone operator, serving at Indiana Bell, then Blue Cross/Blue Shield, before dedicating over two decades to RCA. Her career demonstrated the same resilience and dedication she offered in all aspects of her life.
But of all her accolades, none could compete with the honor she held dearest: being a mother and grandmother. With her 5 children, Sara laid the foundation of a family that has blossomed through generations. Her legacy extends through 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren, each one a testament to her life's love and joy.
Sara was always ready for a game of cards, whether that be euchre, some form of rummy, or the games of war and pig she’d play with her grandchildren. In her 80’s, she became an avid fan of national football, basketball, and golf. In her last couple years of life she loved watching the British baking competition program and reruns of Lawrence Welk.
Sara possessed a rare blend of warmth and generosity. In every glance and gesture, sweetness radiated from her, ingraining her gracious presence in every heart she touched. Her kindness had no constraints and, true to her essence, her life was an endless symphony of loving others.
Sara is survived by her children, Fred (Caroletta) Brewer, Ron (Mary) Brewer, Bob (Carolyn) Brewer, and Debbie Brewer Stone, 45 grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends who were like family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings, her husband, Louis F. Brewer, her son, Paul Brewer, her granddaughter, Lisa Ruscetti, and her great grandsons, Matt Cinamon and Derek Koon.
Fulfilling her humble wish, no formal funeral will occur. Instead, we await a celebration of her vibrant life at a later date yet to be marked on our calendars.
In the poignant words of Merritt Malloy: "When I die, Give what’s left of me away… Look for me In the people I’ve known Or loved..." As we grieve, let us gather in gratitude for Sara's love that transcends the bounds of this earthly life. It leaves us with tender memories and fills our hearts with the legacy of a love that remains unchanged by time. Let us find comfort in one another, sharing in the immense love Sara nurtured alongside every life she touched. For truly, people may part, but love endures, forever.
