Roger David Horton

Roger David Horton, age 68, passed away on January 6, 2026. He was born on December 13, 1957, in Anderson, Indiana, to Roger Wayne Horton and Edna Loraine Feight.

Roger grew up in Anderson, Indiana, and cherished the summers of his childhood spent in Kentucky with his grandmother—memories that stayed close to his heart throughout his life. He graduated from Lapel High School and continued his education at Texas A&M University. In 1974, Roger joined the United States Navy, where he developed skills that shaped much of his life’s work. During his service, he became a certified pipe fitter and welder, trades he carried after his military years. He later shared his knowledge by teaching welding classes at Ivy Tech, impacting many students through his skill and encouragement.

Roger was deeply loved and respected. He was a very good man—steady, dependable, and always there when someone needed him. He was the “rock and glue” to the family. Easygoing by nature and a jokester at heart, Roger had a way of making people feel comfortable and valued. Anyone who crossed paths with him was impacted in some way. He was a family man and opened his heart and home to many, helping raise extra children along the way and loving them as his own.

He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Some of his favorite times were spent coon hunting and trap hunting with his son, nephew, and grandchildren. His grandchildren were the joy that kept him going. When he wasn’t outdoors, he could often be found in his garage, working on his truck, tinkering, painting, or restoring cars.

Roger is survived by his wife, Cynthia Horton; children, Michael David Horton Sr., Amanda Kay Horton, Michelle Lynn Horton, and Melinda Horton (Travis Spencer); grandchildren, Austin Lee Brown, Trent Wayne Brown, Elijah Copeland, Taylor Farley, Michael David Horton Jr., Jazzlynn Spencer, Ariel Horton, and Valerie Spencer; great-grandchildren, Jasper and Avery Brown, Braxton Copeland, and Skylynn Farley. He is also survived by his siblings, Vicky Horton and Ronny Brady, and Bonnie Brady; and nephews Brandon(Samantha) Brady Jr. and Brian (Melody) Brady. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Roger Wayne Horton and Edna Loraine Feight; and his siblings, Tammy Horton Crum, Chris Lee, Terry Horton, Danisha Fogel, Barbara Gross, and Donny Brady.

Roger will be remembered for his generous heart, steady presence, and the laughter he brought into so many lives.
