Robert Leon Washington, Jr. of Anderson, IN, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 11, 2025. He was born on November 24, 1958, in South Bend, IN, to Carol D. Washington and Robert L. Washington, Sr.

He attended John Adams High School and LaSalle High School. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for four years and continued to serve in the reserves until his retirement. Robert accepted the Lord into his life at an early age and was baptized at the Berean Seventh-Day Adventist Church in South Bend, IN.

After serving in the Army, Robert began his career in the medical field, working as an aide at Osteopathic Hospital, where he was awarded Employee of the Year. After the hospital closed, he started working at a local nursing home. He then relocated to Anderson, IN, where he worked at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Additionally, he provided in-home private care.

Robert later joined Community Hospital, where he worked for over 30 years in the Emergency Room, eventually becoming an Emergency Room Technician. He received numerous awards, including nominations from patients for the Sunflower Award. His contagious smile and genuine love for people radiated throughout the ER, touching everyone he encountered. He never met a stranger, and many patients returned to thank him for the warmth and comfort he provided.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Carol D. Washington of Mishawaka, IN; his father, Robert (Linda) L. Washington, Sr. of Augusta, GA; one brother, Gerry L. Washington of Wichita, KS; his sisters, Kimberly (Herb) M. Washington-Henley of Granger, IN, and Arkiess (Anthony) Washington of South Bend, IN; family members Michelle and Jackie Spears of South Bend, IN; nephews Jamaal Henley and Alvin Alsanders; nieces Seikras Washington and Macy Alsanders; special niece Jayme (Rodney) Hubbard; her mom, cousin Toni (Larry) Johnson; Aunt cousin Sylvia Kay (Warner) Haynes; great-niece Jayla; great-nephew Roddy Hubbard; God-daughter Tangela Crawford-Boyd; God-granddaughters Kassidy and Lextan; God-grandsons Mateo and Gaige; best friends Fred (Linda) Sutherland and Roosevelt Thomas; special cousins Bonita (Fred) Dudley-Parker, Chucky (Debbie) Dudley, and Albert (Nancy) Dudley, along with their families; and a host of cousins, relatives, friends, and co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his brother James E. Washington.

Robert Leon will be missed but never forgotten. His memories, exuberant personality, smiles, big heart, and empathy for others will always be cherished.
