Robert Marvin Swick

Robert Marvin Swick of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023.  Bob was born on October 31st, 1932, in Indianapolis to the late Leo Lester Swick and Pauline Marie Swick (née Suhr).  His siblings, Leo John Swick (Viola) and Shirley Ann Andrews predeceased him.  He attended Ben Davis High School where he lettered in baseball and basketball.  He subsequently attended GMI (General Motors Institute) in Flint, Michigan, where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering and belonged to the Delta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Upsilon (Fiji). In 1956, Bob married Marilynn Louise Bainaka, also of Indianapolis, and they were together for 66 years and had three children.

For 41 years, Bob worked for Detroit Diesel Allison as a control systems engineer and was the inventor of several patents. He was respected in his field.

Bob was an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church for over sixty years and in Boy Scout Troup 494. Very athletic, he played league softball, horseshoes, and bowling and enjoyed golfing, skiing, and playing basketball throughout his life.

A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Bob is survived by his wife Marilynn; brother-in-law Walter Andrews; children Mark Swick (Allie), Diana Goldberg (Brad), and Stephanie Swick; grandchildren Jason Goldberg (Inessa), Alex Goldberg (Faith), Ian Goldberg (Ally); and great-grandchild Max Goldberg.  He will be missed by them.

A Celebration of Life for him will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Gleaners Food Bank in Indianapolis.
