1stSgt Robert Frank Larsen, Sr., 87, was honorably discharged and retired from the United States Marine Corps after 22 years of service and later became a dedicated and hardworking employee of the City of Indianapolis. He was born April 2, 1937, in New York, New York, and after his service in the Marines lived in Indianapolis. He passed away peacefully at IU Memorial Hospital on May 1, 2024.

Bob's life was marked by service, both to his country and then to his community. A proud Marine of 22 years, he served honorably in Vietnam with the 3rd Division. He earned the respect and gratitude of a grateful nation for his service. After his retirement from the Marines, Bob went on to a second career as an employee of the City of Indianapolis in the Department of Public Works in their road repair area. Later, he became a volunteer in the master gardener program. Bob loved being of service to his community by helping people beautify their yards and the city's parks.

Bob leaves behind a legacy of love for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife and fellow Marine veteran, Nancy Larsen. They had a loving relationship lasting 65 years. Bob is also survived by his son, Col. Robert Larsen, Jr., PhD., who retired from the US Army as a colonel after 32 years of service. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by a daughter who passed away in 1995. He was an active participant in all their lives.

1stSgt Robert Frank Larsen, Sr., will be fondly remembered for his unwavering commitment to his country, his community, and most importantly, his family. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength to all who knew him and loved him.
