Robert “Butch” Austin Brake, 68, of Alexandria, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026, at 6:48 a.m. at Community Hospital in Anderson, Indiana, surrounded by his loved ones.
Butch was born in Indiana and lived most of his life in Alexandria, where he made a home filled with memories, family, and love. He graduated from Alexandria-Monroe High School with the Class of 1977. He also spent many years living in Oklahoma before returning home to Alexandria.
Butch shared a special bond with his mother and lived with her in their home until her passing. He remained in that home and lived out the rest of his days there, surrounded by the memories and life they had built together.
A hardworking man, Butch devoted his entire life to providing for and caring for the people he loved. He most recently retired from ELSA in Elwood, Indiana, after many years as a dedicated and valued employee.
Butch had many passions in life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and old cars. His beloved 1968 Chevrolet c10 held a special place in his heart. More than anything, though, Butch loved spending time with his family and loved ones.
He was a devoted friend who would have your back until the very end. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather. His children and grandchildren were truly the pride and joy of his life, and his love for his family was evident in all that he did.
Butch leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of hard work, loyalty, love, and devotion that will live on through the many people whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family is planning to have a Celebration of Life at the Eagles in Alexandria, Indiana, at a later date. Details will be announced when arrangements have been finalized.
Butch may be gone from our sight, but the love he gave, the memories he created, and the mark he left on the lives of those he loved will remain forever.
He is survived by his children Nicole Brake, Ashlee (Nick) Cesario, Quinlin (Kassey Powell) Weaver, Austin Brake, Kaylee (Adam Huffman) Brake; 12 grandchildren; 2 older brothers, Stephen (Ginger) Beamer and John (Robin) Beamer; one younger sister Susan (Carl) Bell; many nieces and nephews; his beloved friend George Diruzza. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Brake, mother Carolyn brake, niece Marla Dwiggins, and nephew Jarrod furnish.
