Rickie Gene Valentine, affectionately known as Rick, passed away on July 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born on June 27, 1953, in Greenfield, Indiana, to Gene and Betty Valentine, Rick lived a life defined by his warm heart, outgoing personality, and deep devotion to those he loved. Known by family and friends as handsome, funny, loving, kind-hearted, and full of life, Rick had a unique ability to make those around him smile and feel welcomed.
Family was at the center of Rick's life. He loved his family dearly and treasured every moment spent with them. Rick had a nickname for every person he loved. His unwavering love, support, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rick graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1971 and briefly attended Ivy Tech Community College. Rick not only was an accomplished athlete, but he was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed following and discussing all types of sports. Whether it was a game, a score, or a player statistic, Rick was often the first person family and friends turned to for sports-related questions. His passion and knowledge made him the go-to expert among those who knew him.
Rick also had a special love for animals and cared deeply for his pets throughout his life. He found great joy in music, especially the timeless songs of Elvis Presley and the classic sounds of the 1950s and 1960s. Those melodies often served as the soundtrack to many happy memories shared with family and friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Betty Valentine.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Valentine; his daughter, Lisa (Joe) Shetterley; his siblings, Bryan Valentine and Cindy Connor; his eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought tremendous joy and pride to his life.
Rick will be remembered for his generous spirit, infectious sense of humor, love of family, passion for sports, and the kindness he shared with everyone he met. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
