Richard E. Hurst, 47, a man of honor inspired by the values of the Samurai, a
dedicated veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and a beloved family man,
passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana.
A native of North Carolina, Richard proudly served his country in the Marines,
carrying with him the values of loyalty and sacrifice throughout his life. Though he
faced significant hardships and a difficult childhood, Richard transformed those
challenges into remarkable resilience. He found essential guidance and support in his
grandparents, who remained a steady source of comfort and strength during his early
years.
Beyond his strength and achievements, Richard’s greatest legacy was his family. He
was deeply loved and dedicated himself to raising his children with unconditional
love and unwavering determination. For him, providing a secure and bright future for
his family was his most important mission, and he succeeded in being the pillar of
support they needed.
Known for his intelligence and perseverance, Richard remained committed to his
goals. His lifelong passion for football and his dream of reaching the NFL defined his
"never-give-up" spirit, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. After
a journey defined by courage and strength, Richard has now found eternal peace.
Richard is survived by his wife of 13 years, Inmaculada Gomez Pons; his children, Sebastian
Ferran Gomez Pons and Guillermo Abraham Garcia Gomez; his siblings, Freedom Nicole Smith
and Jesse Smith Jr.; and his daughter-in-law, Cloe Ramirez Lopez.
He will be deeply missed by his family here and by his extended family overseas in Spain, who
held him in great affection and will cherish his memory forever.
