Richard Howard Jackson, age 85, went to be with the Lord the morning of May 2, 2023, while at his Anderson, Indiana home. A graveside service will be held at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery on May 23 at 11 a.m. Pastor Andy Lutz and Pastor Bob Mahl will officiate.
Dick was born in Anderson on October 9, 1937, to Harold Homer Jackson and Bessie Mae Shank Jackson. After graduating from Anderson High School in 1956 he attended Texas Christian University and Anderson College and later worked at May Supply. He and Leah May Moser married on November 2, 1957. He also worked at Moser’s Hardware from 1956 until he and Leah then owned it from 1972 to 1987. After that Dick served Edgewood Baptist Church where he was a member, serving in many capacities including deacon and maintenance until he retired in 2018.
He enjoyed woodworking, lawn work, general tinkering, fishing with Doug, Glenn, and Joe, traveling the United States with Leah and his friends, and watching basketball and football with Leah when she held the remote. Therefore, there were four televisions in the house. He also ended up being a great friend and rescuer of stray kittens.
Dick is survived by Leah and his daughters Heather Ann Johnston (Phil Johnston) and Misty May Jackson (Timothy Lauxmann); four grandchildren Clayton (Tara), Wesley (Victoria), and Meri Johnston and Alexander Lauxmann; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Logan Johnston. He was preceded in death by his sisters Janet (Shafer), Kathleen (Baker), and Bonnie (Moser). His sister Mary Lou (Konkle) and eight nieces and nephews and their families also survive him.
