Phyllis L. Curtis

Phyllis Lou Curtis, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023, in Indianapolis, IN, at the age of 95. She was born on September 24, 1927, in Eli (known as Russell Springs), KY, to the late Oliver Rae (aka Red) and Eliza Jane Harris.

Phyllis was a devoted Christian, living her life with unwavering faith. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, cherishing her family above all else. Phyllis is survived by her son, Terry A. Curtis (Gayle), her sister, Olivia, and her 8 grandchildren. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter who brought immense joy to her life.

In her early years, Phyllis worked as a counter girl in the old Indianapolis Greyhound Bus Station restaurant, where fate brought her together with her beloved husband, Cecil A Curtis. Later in life, she retired as a full-time nanny for Craig & Kathy McGaughey, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of the children she cared for.

Phyllis was a lifelong member of the East 91st Street Christian Church since its inception on E. 49th Street in Broad Ripple. She actively participated in various women’s groups and taught Bible Study, sharing her faith and wisdom with others. She also specialized teaching Bible Study to special needs children.

A ceremony to celebrate Phyllis’s life will be held at Legacy, located at 5212 North Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46226 .

Phyllis Lou Curtis will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion will forever be cherished.
