Pamela Sue Smith, born Pamela Sue Batman, passed away on October 15, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on August 2, 1958, in West Lafayette, Indiana, and will be remembered as a kind and loving woman whose warmth grew ever more evident through the years.
Although quiet as a child, Pamela became more outgoing as she grew older. Those who knew her will remember her gentle nature, her caring heart, and the special affection she showed to her nieces. She had a way of expressing love in steady, thoughtful ways, and that kindness remained a defining part of her life.
Pam worked for National Liquor at their headquarters, where she handled office paperwork, phone calls, and inside sales, while also coordinating outside sales with the company’s salespeople. She brought diligence and dependability to her work and was a valued part of the office.
Pamela found joy in life’s simple pleasures and favorite pastimes. She liked to go gambling every chance she got, making regular trips to Shelbyville and Anderson to play the slots, while especially enjoying the excitement of Las Vegas casinos. She also loved beach vacations and visited many coastal destinations, from Myrtle Beach to Daytona to St. Pete. Her favorite beaches were the soft white sands of the Florida Panhandle, a place that held a special place in her heart. While soaking up the sun, she enjoyed reading steamy romance novels, and reading at home was one of her favorite pastimes as well, until her eyesight began to fail her.
She was also known affectionately as a true “cat lady.” Pamela adopted feral cats and strays, caring for them until she could find homes for them. One of her favorite companions was a Siamese cat named Simon, who was especially dear to her. Simon accompanied her on visits with friends and family and even on drives in the car, a reflection of the close bond they shared.
Pamela is survived by her sister Carol Batman, along with Carol’s wife, Debbie Mundy and their child, Lorne; and by her brother, Kevin Batman and his wife, Beth, including children, Brittany and Morgan. She held a special place in the lives of her family, and her love for them was clear in the attention and affection she gave so freely.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Batman, and her mother, Harriet (Hoffman) Batman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In keeping with one of Pamela’s greatest joys, her family will take her on her final beach vacation to the Florida Panhandle, where they will celebrate her life and scatter her cremains. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pamela's name to Indyneighborhoodcats.org an organization dedicated to reducing the feral cat population.
Pamela Sue Smith will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to family, her compassion for animals, and the happiness she found in beaches, books, and the thrill of a favorite game of chance. Her memory will remain dear to all who knew and loved her.
