Otilia Arteaga

Otilia Arteaga, born on June 9, 1948, in Totatiche, Jalisco, Mexico, passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 17, 2025. A cherished mamá and abuelita, Otilia's warm and friendly disposition made her beloved by many. Known for her adventurous spirit, she often took impromptu trips back to her home country, fostering a deep affection for her roots.

Otilia’s culinary skills were legendary; she was particularly famous for her delectable gorditas, along with tamales and enchiladas that brought joy to all who tasted them. She also enjoyed her daily coffee but always said that no one made her coffee right except for her youngest daughter, Bonnie. Memories fondly shared by family highlight her enthusiasm when she would arrive home from work, insisting, "We're going to Tlaltenango! Pack your bags and load the coolers!" This excitement for family trips was a testament to her loving nature and dedication to maintaining close ties with her heritage.

Throughout her life, Otilia embodied generosity and fierce independence. She was known for her willingness to share, often purchasing items for those in need or providing financial assistance without a second thought. Her adventurous personality also shone through her love for cooking and her passion for discovering treasures at yard sales, which she delighted in gifting to others, believing they would appreciate them. She also loved watching her telenovelas and game shows.

Otilia leaves behind a loving family, including her children Oscar Arteaga, Rebeca Amador, Bonnie Amador, and Julio Amador. She is also survived by her brother Santiago Arteaga and her brother Gabino Arteaga, along with 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her memory forward.

Visitation for Otilia Arteaga will take place on June 24, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services located at 1604 W Morris St, Indianapolis, IN 46221. A graveside prayer service will follow at 1:30 PM at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
