Nancy Elizabeth (Hertenstein) Rednour, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 17, 2026. She was born on January 8, 1940, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Henry Allen and Mary Clair (Cleveland) Hertenstein. In August 1958, she married Sherman Earl Rednour, with whom she shared her life until his passing in May 2019.
Nancy was a deeply devoted mother, grandmother, and follower of Christ. In her younger years, she could often be found teaching Sunday school or worshiping alongside her husband, Earl. Her belief in God was the lens through which she viewed the world and the light by which she saw everything in it. Her faith shaped not only what she believed, but how she cared for the people around her.
Nancy had a way of making everyone feel like one of her own children or grandchildren. She was always looking after others, making sure they had what they needed and that they knew they were loved. She made time for her friends and family and never made anyone feel like an inconvenience. She gave freely of herself, not out of obligation, but because she wanted others to feel loved.
Even when life was difficult, Nancy seemed to find a reason to be happy. Alongside that joyful spirit was a feisty side that came out when she believed something was unjust. Her kindness was not without strength, and she stood up for what she believed was right.
Nancy retired from Kroger Dairy and enjoyed helping at Sherrydough bakery, pitching in wherever she could and keeping the dishes washed. She cherished time with her family and never turned down an invitation to Texas Roadhouse. Whether through a shared meal, a helping hand, or simply making time to listen, Nancy made her love known in everyday ways.
Nancy is survived by her children, Elizabeth “Beth” Bickel (David), Sherry Miller (Rod), and Robert Rednour; her daughter-in-law, Martha, wife of her late son William “Bill” Earl Rednour; her sister, Susie Carol; her grandchildren, Nathan, Josh, Christa, Nick, Brittany, Paige, Zoey, Paiton, Ana, Raquel, Daniel, Cristi, and Aracely; many great-grandchildren; and the friends and extended family she held close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sherman Earl Rednour; her son, William “Bill” Earl Rednour; her granddaughter, Laura Sanders; and her brothers, Henry Allen Hertenstein Jr. and William Herman Hertenstein.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Home on Shadeland, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Washington Park Cemetery.
Nancy leaves behind a family who knew they could always count on her love. The faith she lived, the kindness she offered, and the room she made for others will remain with those who knew her.
