Celebration of Life For Martha Lee Gibson

Martha Lee Gibson was born on July 3, 1961 to Robert and Claudia Gibson in Vigo County Terre Haute, IN. Martha passed away from a lengthy illness on Monday June 27, 2022. Martha graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo High School. She was inducted into the National Honor Society in Psychology, Psi Chi Chapter,1990. Martha earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Purdue University, Class of 1995.

Martha’s gifts to humankind are referenced in 1 Corinthians 12:28: And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Martha had the Gifts of Helps. She lived her life free of bias towards people and was kind to anyone she met. There was not a time when she was free from assisting or caring for family, friends and the community at large. Martha used her Gifts of Helps to serve her country in the United States Air Force National Guard. She was in service to the United States for 24 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant, July 2005. Martha received the following awards/commendations:

Meritorious Service Medal, AF Commendation Medal, AF Achievement, AF Outstanding Unit, CG Meritorious Team Commendation, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service, National Defense Service, Longevity, Armed Forces Reserve, Small Arms Expert Marksman, AF Training, Recruiting Ribbon, Indiana Long Service, Indiana OCONUS, Indiana Military Volunteer, Bronze Oakleaf 1-4, Silver Oakleaf 5, Bronze Star, 2x Silver hour Award.

Martha continued the use of her Gift of Helps with 30 years of service total to Wishard Memorial Hospital/Midtown Community Health Services as a Licensed Addictions Counselor. When Wishard Hospital closed, she continued her services with employment at Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital. She also worked in various research and supervisory positions earning her awards and various recognitions for her commitment and dedication to her work. Martha also assisted with appointment setting for vaccinations during the peak of the Covid Pandemic.

Martha was an accomplished, self-publishing author of the book, Hemel, April 2008.

Martha also had a huge heart and affinity for service to animals. There was not a time when she did not have at least three animals in her house. She raised Callie, Roscoe, Cleo, Leah, Scooby Doo, Louise and Jolene.

Martha supported various charities such as The Wounded Warrior Project, The Humane Society and Gleaners Food Bank. Martha was very well versed in resources to help someone in need.

Martha loved to travel, often to Mexico . She especially loved travel with The Air Force National Guard with trips to Puerto Rico, Italy and Hawaii. Martha loved all types of music and also enjoyed binge watching The Walking Dead and The Handmaid’s Tale.

To Our Dear Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Niece, Helper and Best Friend to many; you will be missed beyond measure. Who will we call when we have questions about the world that only you could make sense of or share an unbiased opinion?

Martha leaves behind sisters, a brother and brother-in-law, Deborah (Timothy) Evans, Mary Anne (David) Coker and Melanie (Patrick) Green and Robert Gibson, Jr., Aunt and Uncle, Margot and Ron Christensen, Aunt and Uncle Kathy and Jim Gibson and Aunt Ina Gibson. Niece, Anna (Ed) McDowell, nephew, Aaron Coker, 2 great nieces and 5 great nephews. She leaves behind several special friends, Nancy, Wayne, Linda, Gloria, Jenny and Dean. Martha also shared a close relationship with the Regalado Family. She also leaves behind 3 fur babies to be cared for by a friend. Martha loved a good party. We will  have her Celebration of Life on Friday, August 5, 2022. Please inquire through family and friends for location. Martha’s Military Burial/Internment will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Peavey Cemetery in Jasonville, Indiana @ 1100 Hours. All are welcome.

Martha loved hats!! Please wear your favorite hat to her party or service.
