Mark Edward Wells, 71, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on October 6, 2026. He was the oldest of four children, born October 12, 1954, in Bloomington, Indiana to Paul and Sharon (Chambers) Wells.
Mark attended Bloomington High School where he excelled at both academics and athletics, proudly making the varsity basketball team. Mark graduated from Bloomington High School in 1972. After graduation, Mark began working as an orderly at Bloomington Hospital. It was during this time he met his future wife, Gay Williams. They married in Bloomington, Indiana, on August 30, 1975. While working, Mark attended college at Indiana University where he was the first in his family to complete a college education, earning his B.A. of Criminal Justice in 1980.
Mark then began his career in law enforcement, which spanned 37 years of combined service and dedication at Bloomington Police Department and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), from which he retired in 2017.
He enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball and softball. When he wasn't playing sports, he was watching his alma matter, the Indiana Hoosiers.
Above all, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family. Whether he was playing sports, eating meals or family vacations, he was always sparking conversation with his quick wit.
