Mark William Walden, 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on August 26, 2026, comfortably at home surrounded by family.
Mark was born on October 31, 1951, in Indianapolis, to the late Arthur and Mary Walden. He attended Warren Central High School. He worked for many years as a car salesman before later becoming an insurance appraiser, a position he held until his retirement.
Mark married the love of his life, Joanne “Jo” Lewis, on December 18, 1969. They were inseparable until Jo's passing shortly after their 53rd wedding anniversary. Together, Mark and Jo raised two sons, Greg and Billy, in Indianapolis. Even as parents, they never stopped having fun — dancing to all the old “oldies” favorites and camping as a family along the Ohio River.
Mark had a deep love for animals and nature. He and Jo always kept dogs, and his last beloved companion, Lady, stayed by his side after Jo passed. Lady has since passed as well.
More than anything, Mark loved spending time with family — telling stories, cracking jokes, and making people laugh. His quick wit never left him, not even in his final days under the care of Hospice Home care.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Walden; his wife, Joanne “Jo” Walden; his son, Greg Walden; grandchildren Niquita and Sebastien Walden; his siblings; and many other loved ones.
Mark is survived by his son, Bill (Sasha) Walden; daughter-in-law Buffy Walden; five grandchildren, Vince Walden, Laura Walden, Britney (Trey) Esther, Ray Walden, and Samanda Reynolds; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Mark would probably tell you to go dance to some oldies, smoke a cigarette on the porch with your dog, or tell a bad joke to someone who doesn't see it coming. He'd want you to laugh at least once today — so go ahead, he'd have liked that better than tears.
