Marilynn Louise Swick (née Bainaka), of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on May 17, 2026.
Marilynn was born in Indianapolis on October 20, 1935, to the late Harry Leroy Bainaka and Catherine Lucile Bainaka (née Parsons). She was preceded in death by her sister, Rae Bainaka Ginger.
Marilynn attended Thomas Carr Howe High School and, following graduation, completed two years of study at Butler University. During her time at Butler and for many years afterward, she was active in the Trianon sorority.
In 1956, Marilynn married Robert “Bob” Marvin Swick. They shared 66 years of marriage until Bob’s passing in 2023 and together raised three children.
A devoted homemaker, Marilynn was deeply involved in her community throughout her life. She volunteered and taught with the Red Cross and served for many years as a Girl Scout leader for her daughters’ troops. She was a faithful member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church for more than sixty years, where she taught Sunday School and served in numerous volunteer roles. She also dedicated many years of service to the Chapel Hill Lions Club, work she greatly enjoyed.
Long before environmental stewardship became widely recognized, Marilynn embraced sustainable living through organic gardening, composting, and recycling. She was active with the nonprofit Human Ecology Action League (HEAL), where she participated in community outreach and environmental advocacy.
Marilynn especially cherished time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her yard, caring for many treasured plants passed down from friends and family over the years, reading, and skiing.
In addition to her husband, parents, and sister, Marilynn was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Rissie and Jim Farris, and Mary Ruth and Jimmy Hovis.
She is survived by her children, Mark Swick (Allie), Diana Goldberg (Brad), and Stephanie Swick; her grandchildren, Jason Goldberg (Inessa), Alex Goldberg (Faith), and Ian Goldberg (Ally); and her great-grandchildren, Max, Sasha, Ben, Lia, Kali, and Maya.
A Celebration of Life for Marilynn will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Girl Scouts of the USA.
