Mack Shelton

Mack Shelton passed away, quietly, in his sleep on June 17, 2023.

Mack was born on a farm near Holston Virginia on March 4th, 1935 to Virgel E. Shelton and Alice E. (Hensley) Shelton. He moved to Indiana in 1940 and attended school in Fairmount, later graduating from the University of Maryland.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953 and served in the Korean War as a Control Tower Operator. After discharge from active duty for disability, he became a Civilian Employee of the Department of Defense as an accountant and auditor; serving in several military installations throughout the world for over 35 years. Upon his retirement from U.S. Government service in 1989, he returned to Indiana, moving to Pendleton and went to work for the State of Indiana as an Administrative Analyst with the Correctional Industrial Facility where he served until retirement in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Satomi Shelton of Pendleton, son Joseph D (Ginny) Shelton of Pendleton, and two daughters, Cyndy D (John) Martin of Kokomo and Sallie J (Eulas Jr) Barnes, of Louisville, Kentucky, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mack was preceded in death by his parents Virgel and Alice Shelton, daughter Nannette E. (Shelton) Rose, infant great grandsons Cash Hunley and Francis Burge, brother Lowell M (Ruthann) Shelton, and five sisters Dorthea (Jim) Hoeksema, Mary Katherine (G. Smith) Rinker, and Betty (“Bud”) Stoddard, Stella Louise (Winifred) Hopkins, and Patty Shelton, who passed away as an infant.

He was a life member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Retired Indiana Public Employees Association (RIPEA), and past president of the Association of Government Accountants Tokyo Chapter.
