Louelle Mae "Sis" Smith, 87, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026. Born on August 30, 1939, in Rushville, Indiana, she was the daughter of James and Rosezetta Couch.

Louelle dedicated many years of service to Indiana Rayon Company before embracing her most cherished role as a homemaker. She found great joy in crocheting, cooking, sewing, and spending time with those she loved. Her home was always open to family, friends, and anyone in need of a warm welcome.

A devoted member of South Heights Christian Church, Louelle lived a life grounded in faith and demonstrated Christ's love through her kindness, generosity, and service to others. She was especially active within the deaf community through the Madison County Deaf Club and treasured the many friendships she built there. One of her proudest accomplishments was receiving recognition for helping bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing communities by teaching American Sign Language in Anderson.

Known for her warm spirit and gift for conversation, Louelle loved chatting with members of the deaf community, preparing meals for family gatherings, and creating handmade treasures through her crocheting and sewing. She also had a special love for animals, especially dogs.Above all else, Louelle loved her family. She cherished each of her siblings and shared a particularly close bond with her sister, Bonnie Knopp. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with those she loved and creating lasting memories together.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Larry Smith; her son, Leary Smith; granddaughter, Sydney Smith; great-grandson, Parker Shipley; siblings, Bonnie Knopp, Roy, Mike, Mary, Jane, and J.C.; and her special daughter, Penny Dalton, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Couch; her mother, Rosezetta Couch; her stepmother; and numerous brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, and nephews who were waiting at Heaven's gates to welcome her home.

Though her family grieves her passing, they find comfort in knowing that her strong faith has carried her into the presence of her Lord and Savior. Louelle's legacy of love, service, faith, and devotion to family will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
