Larry Stephen Winke, age 82, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on April 9, 2026.
Larry was born on December 10th,1943 in Port Clinton, Ohio, to Stephen Joseph Winke and Mary Theresa (Hermes) Winke. He spent the first two decades of his life in Port Clinton, working and socializing with the community and people he loved. On February 28,1963 he married his soulmate, Suzanne Winke.
Larry is survived by his children, Tricia Bennett and Michelle Rice; his grandchildren, Amanda (James) Enochs, Travis Bennett, Garrett (Sara) Bennett, Lance Rice and Lucas Rice; four great-grandchildren, Emalyn and Addison Enochs, Davis and Blythe Bennett; his sister, Laverne (Michael) Ferdon; multiple nieces and nephews; his companion, Emily Perkins; and his dog and best friend, Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife, Suzanne; his wife, Deborah (Wittenmeier); his brothers, John, Robert, Gerald, Francis and Richard; his sisters, Madonna Ashton, Rosella Thompson, Rita Greer, Mary Ellen Raypole, and Carolyn Kranz.
Larry attended Immaculate Conception School through the eighth grade and Port Clinton High School until leaving to take care of his mother following the death of his father. He and Suzanne owned their own janitorial service for many years before he began working for his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Joyce Colquitt and later retiring from Advanced Auto Parts as a delivery driver.
Larry was a well-liked, gregarious man who never met a stranger, was quick with a joke or funny story and had a heart of gold. He believed his purpose in life was to help others and would go out of his way to do so. Most of all, he loved his family and his friends. He found joy in family get togethers, camping, golfing, bowling, cornhole, playing cards, going to the casino, and taking Cooper for car rides.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Larry on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46226, followed by a Memorial Service starting at 4:30 pm at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date. Larry's final resting place will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Fishers, IN.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Larry’s honor to Hemophilia of Indiana, Inc., 6910 Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220, or to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
