Larry Wayne Franklin Sr.

July 12, 1954 — December 27, 2022

Elwood, IN

Larry Wayne Franklin Sr., age 68, of Elwood, passed away on December 27, 2022, at Community Hospital in Anderson. He was born to Mitchell Payton Franklin and Edna Pearl (Crowder) Franklin on July 12, 1954, in Nashville, TN.

Larry was a graduate of Hamilton Southeastern High School, Class of 1972. Throughout his life he worked at Colonial Bakery for over 20 years, and then was a truck driver for 20+ years. He was a pro at making the famous “family recipe.” He was a member of White River Christian Church in Arcadia for many years. Larry loved many things in life, but his most prized possession was his family. He loved his family more than anything and always made sure they never went without. He was the true heartbeat of his family.

Larry was funny, kind, and loyal. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, racing, scavenger hunts, and sitting by the fire playing his guitar. He was always tinkering with things, and if he couldn’t fix it, he would turn it into something new. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Larry is survived by his children Carmelita Cates (Larry), Christopher Franklin (Susie), and Joshua Franklin (Kimberly); grandchildren Nicholas Franklin (Kylie), Ayla Stinson (Michael), Larry Cates Jr., Hannah Franklin, Christopher Franklin Jr., Jada Franklin, Justin Franklin, Meridian Franklin, Aubrey Franklin, and Riley Franklin; great-grandchildren Leah, Lily, Bella, Mariah, Addy, Zara, Amira, and Malia; siblings Helen Doss (Tim) and Sandi Imel (John); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife Nelda Franklin, son Larry Wayne Franklin Jr., parents Mitchell and Edna Franklin, and brothers Jerry and Garey Franklin.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday December 31, 2022, at Atlanta Christian Church from 12pm-1pm with a service beginning at 2pm.

Cremation was chosen through Legacy Cremation and Funeral Service – Anderson.
