Alexandria, IN

Joseph Stephen Young, 74, passed away at his home, surrounded by family, in Alexandria, Indiana, on December 10, 2025. He was born on January 8, 1951, in Abbeville, South Carolina, to E.B. and Mabel Young.

Joseph lived a life defined by selflessness, faith, and service to others. He graduated cum laude from Columbia Bible College and went on to serve as camp director for the Pioneers at Teen Valley Ranch in Plumtree, NC. Early in his career, he taught at Rose City Christian School in Thomasville, GA. He was later invited to help establish Victory Christian School in Valdosta, where he served as the school’s founding administrator, helping to build the program from the ground up and guiding its growth during his five years there.

Following his time in education, Joseph worked for Electronic Data Systems as a computer operator for three years. He then joined Boyce Systems (formerly Keystone Consulting Services), where he dedicated 24½ years before retiring. After retirement, he cherished traveling with his wife, Florelyn—especially their trips to the Philippines and the joy of exploring new places together.

Joseph was passionate about running and completed multiple marathons throughout his life. Above all, he treasured his role as a father and grandfather. He shared three children with his former wife, Sharalee (Young) Lawyer, and deeply loved his two grandchildren.

He found joy in family time, singing, playing musical instruments, watching movies, enjoying games, teaching, and traveling. His curiosity, creativity, and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Florelyn Young; his daughters, Charity Young and Elizabeth Young; and his grandchildren, Sebastian and Scarlett Young. He is also survived by his siblings: Grace Young, Joy Young, Paul Young, and Daniel Young, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E.B. and Mabel Young; his sister, Faith Young; and his son, Dr. Stephen Mark Young.

A memorial service will be held at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services in Anderson on December 22, 2025. Visitation will take place from 1 to 2 PM immediately followed by the memorial service.
