Joseph Valvo

Joseph P. Valvo, 85, son of Phillip and Lena Valvo, died on August 2, 2025. Mr. Valvo was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his strong faith in God.

Born in Rome, New York, Mr. Valvo enlisted in the U. S. Air Force after high school. He earned the rank of Staff Sargeant before being honorably discharged after eight years of service.

Mr. Valvo worked at Roudebush VA Medical Center for 33 years in the cardiac catherization lab. He trained surgeons to implant pacemakers. Mr. Valvo also monitored implanted pacemakers for patients. After retiring, he got licensed to sell securities where he broke many sales records as a financial planner.

Mr. Valvo graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Management.

Mr. Valvo truly loved the Lord. Mr. Valvo enjoyed leading bible studies and prayer groups. He participated in the Charismatic Renewal. Mr. Valvo was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

Some of Mr. Valvo's interests included piloting his small airplane, traveling the world, and cruising.

Mr. Valvo is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Rosemary Valvo; his sister, Prudence Halbeisen; his daughters, Elizabeth Schroth (Douglas), Josephine Sjoberg (Peter), Kathleen Ray, Rosemary Mifsud (Mario); and sons, Joseph and Phillip (Pat). Mr. Valvo is also survived by grandchildren, Jasson, Christopher, Tamara Sjoberg, Tabitha Moredock, Ivy Justine, Ashley Conaway, Pamela Grove, Glenda Ray, Susanne Long, Kelli Overman, Anthony Soares, and Diane Purnell. Mr. Valvo also had 19 great-grandchildren. Mr. Valvo is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carmel DiCarlo.

Public viewing will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Legacy Cremation Funeral 5215 N. Shadeland Ave. The rosary will be said at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, East 46th St. and Shadeland Ave. Internment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
