José F. Gaitan, the Legend, was born in Eagle Pass, Texas on March 19, 1942, and passed away at his Greenwood residence on September 2, 2024. José served in the U.S. Army and was a laborer with Local 1112. He was a lifetime member and Commander for 30 years of Post 19 Legion in Muncie, IN, a member of the Greenwood VFW 5864, the Vice Commander of the 10th District, a member of the 40/8, and the Alexandria Eagles. He proudly served in the Honor Guards of Delaware and Johnson Counties.
José is survived by the love of his life, Robin Wood, children: José Jr., Jesus, Maria, Juanita, and José M. Bonus children: Angela, William, Tannia, Kevin, Julie, Jama, Jason, and Mindy. Siblings: Zulema, Yolanda (Ricardo), Gustavo “Black” (Diana), Olivia (Luciano), and Elizabeth (Antonio), in-laws: Rebecca, Petra, Rebecca, Santos, Bernice, Irene, Jeff and Berlinda.
Multiple Great Grandchildren, Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews, as well as the families of Post 19 and VFW 5864.
Preceded in death: Parents: Tomas and Aurora. Son: Tomas. Bonus child: Amanda. Siblings: Tomas, Israel, Maria, Mario, Raul, Aurora, Matias, and Ramiro.
Calling hours will be 4pm-6pm on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Post 19 Legion at 418 N. Walnut St, Muncie, IN, with services immediately following.
