Johnny Jay Jones

Johnny Jay Jones, age 65, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025, after a period of declining health. Born on March 4, 1959, to the late Paul ("Bud") and Mary Jones in Anderson, Indiana, Johnny resided in Anderson for most of his life. He was a 1977 graduate of Anderson High School and attended Ball State University and Ivy Tech. He spent his career at Barber Manufacturing, then Indiana Box Company, where he dedicated many years before retiring.

Outside of work, Johnny had a passion for all sports, especially golf, IU sports, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Pacers. He enjoyed summers on Lake Freeman and Beaver Dam Lake, and vacations at Siesta Key, Florida. He was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

Johnny will be dearly missed by his wife of 45 years, Kelly; daughter Ashley (Josh McNabney); grandson, Jaylen; nephew, Oliver; niece, Melissa ("Don") Vasold; and long-time friends and "brothers," Jeff Davis, Kevin Haggard, and Andy McConathy, who continue to hold his memory close. Additionally, he will be missed by several nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and extended family.

Johnny was preceded in death by his sister, Paula; sister-in-law, Kim Smith; brother-in-law, Charlie Smith; niece, Karli Smith; his in-laws, Al and Jeanette Hornocker, and dear friends who were like brothers: Brian Bondurant, Kevin Kendall, and David St. Clair (“Saint”).

Per Johnny's wishes, no formal services will be held.

Johnny will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
