John Collins, 70, passed away on August 4, 2026. John was born on November 28,1955 in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Harvey and Nellie (Duff) Collins.
John was a devoted family man who loved spending time fishing, playing pool, going to yard sales, car auctions, and going on trips with his brothers to watch his brother, Jack, race his race cars. He spent his younger years as bartender/bouncer at The Somerset Tavern on Oliver Ave on the Westside of Indianapolis and his later years driving a semi.
John leaves behind many to treasure his memory including his devoted wife, Leatha Collins; a daughter, Christine Warriner; and his sons: Shane (Missy) Pitcock, Johnny (Rena) Collins, Micheal (Dana) Huser, Joseph Deaton, Shane “Bub” Collins, and Kaleb Collins. John will also be dearly missed by his siblings: Dewey (Frances) Collins, Jack (Sheilla) Collins, Mike Collins, Alvin Collins, Ray (Ruthie) Collins, and Anna Collins, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his son, John “Little John” Deaton; his grandsons: Shane “Lou” Pitcock and Justin Dorris; and a great grandson, Mason Dorris; as well as his sister, Ruth (Willie) Basham.
Family and friends are invited to gather to honor John's memory on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services which is located at 1604 W. Morris Street, Indianapolis. There will be a visitation from 12:00PM until 1:30PM, and the funeral service will immediately follow. Burial will be at Concordia Cemetery located at 2703 S. Meridian Street, Indianapolis.
