On May 21, 2026, Jessica González Díaz passed away at the tender age of 17, surrounded by her family in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born in Nayarit, Mexico, on November 29, 2008, the daughter of her father, Octavio González, and her mother, Emilia Díaz. Jessica—or "PEKE," as many called her—was a loving daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend to many. From birth, Jessica faced significant health challenges that many could scarcely imagine; yet, she confronted them with extraordinary resilience and always with a smile on her face.

Growing up in Mexico with a rare illness, she found it difficult to receive the medical care she needed; this was the motivation behind her parents' difficult decision to move their family to Indianapolis. Their daughter was their entire world, and they did everything possible to provide her with a beautiful life despite her medical challenges. Since arriving in Indianapolis, Jessica truly blossomed, and most recently—on May 18, 2026—she graduated from Warren Central High School. Jessica loved going to school every day and learning; however, she was a very sociable young woman, and her favorite part of school was seeing her friends and teachers. In her free time, she enjoyed watching videos on YouTube and television, as well as playing on her iPad. What Jessica loved doing most each day was being with her family; whether watching shows together, playing with her siblings, or cuddling with her parents, those moments always managed to make Jessica's smile a little wider than usual.

To know Jessica was to understand true joy, resilience, and unconditional love. Her joyful spirit was contagious and left an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and loved forever by her mother, Emilia Díaz; her father, Octavio González; her sister, America Velásquez; and her brothers, Wilmer Díaz and Octavio Emiliano González. ...as well as by many uncles, cousins, and friends. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the dedicated physicians, nurses, social workers, and child life specialists at Riley Children’s Hospital for their extraordinary care and support. A service will be held on June 4, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Legacy Funeral, located at 5215 Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46226. All those who loved Jessica are welcome to attend and honor her beautiful, though brief, life. We ask that you wear white to honor Jessica. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Riley Children's Foundation to help other children and families facing similar battles.
