Jennifer L. Emler, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Indianapolis community, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, in her hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on September 6, 1966, Jennifer’s life was one defined by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family.

Jennifer’s journey began in Indianapolis, where she grew up surrounded by the warmth of her family. She met the man of her dreams early in life and married Nickey Emler when she was just fifteen years old. Together, they built a life centered around family, which stood as Jennifer’s proudest accomplishment throughout her life.

A devoted homemaker and nurturing mother, Jennifer was known for her heartfelt involvement in her children’s lives. She served as a class mom for each of her children during their grade school years, eagerly contributing by bringing snacks and accompanying the children on field trips. Her kindness and infectious spirit made her beloved by all the children who knew her.

Jennifer’s generosity extended beyond her immediate family, embracing the role of a loving “mamaw” to her grandchildren. When their parents were away, Jennifer lovingly cared for all of them, watching over them with the unique affection only a grandmother could offer. Her home was a haven filled with warmth and the comforting aromas of her delicious, old-fashioned, down-home cooking—the culinary skill she took great pride in.

Outside her family life, Jennifer found joy in reading thrilling and suspenseful novels, especially those by James Patterson. She also cherished keeping in touch with loved ones through texting, and enjoyed watching sitcoms and reality television shows, which brought light moments into her daily routine.

Jennifer is survived by her devoted mother, Linda Howell-Gedek; her children, Bethany (Brandon) Shelton, Justin (Mindi) Emler, and Brittany (Snapper) Scruggs; as well as her many grandchildren—Jacob, Gabbie, Kyle, Lexi, Damion, Devin, Dominick, Brielle, Caden, Gavin, Madison, Terinna, and Skyler—and great-grandchildren Karter, Gunnar, Sadie, Keenan, and Aveya. Jennifer also leaves behind her beloved sisters: Suzanne, Crystal, Melissa, and Emily. Their lives were profoundly enriched by Jennifer’s steadfast love and nurturing presence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nickey Emler; her father, William "Bill" Bullington; her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Nina Howell, as well as her paternal grandparents, JC and Haze Bullington.

A visitation in honor of Jennifer will be held on April 27, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 1604 W Morris St, Indianapolis, IN 46221. The funeral service will follow on April 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM, concluding at 1:00 PM at the same location.

Jennifer L. Emler leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and unwavering kindness. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
