Janet Carol Bakemeier-Barnes, age 68, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023. Born August 29, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Bakemeier and Joyce Marie Bakemeier.
Janet graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1973. She was in the National Honor Society and was on the swim team. Janet traveled abroad to Spain, increasing her fluency in Spanish, and spent summers in Canada with her family, becoming a proficient water-skier. She studied psychology and nursing, earning a Bachelor of Arts-Psychology from Purdue in 1980; a Bachelor of Arts-Spanish from Indiana University in 1981; a Bachelor of Science-Addictions Therapy from Wesleyan University in 1997; and studied at the Indiana University School of Nursing. Janet volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Okinawa for a year.
Janet loved animals, and was an accomplished horsewoman who volunteered at a local stable, helping disabled children to ride horses.
She is predeceased by her brother, Richard Bruce Bakemeier. Survivors include her mother, Joyce; sister Nancy; and brother Robert Otto.
