James Eugene Walker, 74, passed away on May 2, 2026. He was born on December 14, 1951, in Anderson, Indiana.

Jim lived in Alexandria, Indiana, and was a lifelong business owner. Over the years, he owned and operated several businesses, including trucking, leasing, towing, muffler, and auto repair companies. Hard work and business independence defined much of his life.

Jim had a passion for model trains and was a member of the Muncie & Western Model Railroad Club. He also loved car culture in all its forms—from restorations and swap meets to racing. One of his proudest moments racing was at the Bobtail 500 in Pocono, Pennsylvania in 1982, when he unexpectedly entered and won the Semi Drag Race event. He was there to deliver semi race trucks but left with much more- first place and a great story to tell. When he wasn’t in the garage or at a swap meet, Jim also enjoyed fishing, boating, or simply being around the water.

A natural storyteller, Jim loved sharing stories—whether you’d heard them before or not, he was going to tell you. He was outgoing, friendly, and full of jokes. Jim never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel welcome with his humor and warmth.

Jim loved animals of all kinds, but dogs held a special place in his heart. His dogs—Chi-Chi, Candy Cane, Baby, and Gypsy—brought him some of his most joyful times.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Walker; son, James Jason Walker and wife Allie; grandson, Leo Walker; mother, Donna Jean Hoppes; sisters, Tonia Hurt, Jeannetta Presley, Jeanice Grable, Judy Walker, and Jody Walker; stepmother, Joyce Hall; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Walker; and grandmother, Etta Bell Walker.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services, with a service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to wear their favorite flannel or casual clothing in honor of Jim—flannels were always his favorite.
