James Sutton

James Sutton, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 26, 2024.  He was born on March 10, 1936, in Decatur, Nebraska, to the late Ted and Nora (Stanley) Sutton.  James was a welder for Ford Fence in Broad Ripple for many years.  Then when the plant closed, he worked in the meat department at Safeway until his retirement.  And then to stay busy, James delivered pizza for Jack’s until his mid 70’s.

When James wasn’t working, he was fishing and hunting.  He was in the Bass Club in Fortville for many years.  James was a character who liked telling tales and was one of the toughest men you will ever know.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; sister, Eileen Sanders of Madison, IN; and grandson, Teddy Sutton of Indianapolis, IN.  

James is survived by his best friends and mother of his children, Beverly Sutton; children, Debra Sutton, Jane Dicus, Jim Sutton (Apryl), and Joy Ash; grandchildren, Jimmy Sutton, Sierra Sutton, Josee King, Ethan Sutton, Jace Sutton, Alaina Sutton, Bella Sutton, Michael Smith (Cara), Steven Dicus, Amy Dicus, April Sutton, and Tia Sapp (Kenny); great grandchildren, Chloe Smith, Michael Smith, Adien Dicus, Eric Moore, Jordan Moore, Latonya Moore, Cameron Moreno, Sophia Fugate, and Zoe Sapp; great great-grandson, Theo Moore; and sister, Alberta Johnson of Mitchell, IN.

James’s cremation arrangements are provided by Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Lawrence.   His final resting place will be at Port William Cemetery, Mitchell, IN.
