James R. (Jim) Ice, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 17, 2016, at his home in Anderson, Indiana, surrounded by his wife of 73 years and several of his children and grandchildren.
Jim was born in Alexandria, Indiana, on June 10, 1934, to James R. Ice, Sr. and Florine Ice. He attended Anderson High School and graduated in 1952. On April 26, 1953, Jim married the love of his life, Wanda Hood Ice. Together, Jim and Wanda built a life in Anderson, raising four children and actively participating in many church and community activities.
Immediately following high school, Jim was accepted into an apprenticeship at Guide Lamp, where he worked for 40 years. He ultimately retired as a Tool Engineer in 1992. Jim enjoyed fishing, watching and discussing sports, cheering for the Indianapolis Colts, following basketball, and supporting anything his grandchildren were involved in. He especially cherished spending time with his family and church family. Jim attended First Baptist Church on Raible Avenue for 50 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James R. Ice, Sr. and Florine Ice; his brother, Eddie Ice; his father- and mother-in-law, Arthur and Ida Hood; and his brother- and sister-in-law, Herbert Hood and Connie Shmalo.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Ice; his daughter, Karla Caplinger (Jeff) of Pendleton; his sons, Stephen Ice of Farmersburg, Indiana, Michael Ice (Stacey) of Zionsville, Indiana, and David Ice of Westfield, Indiana; and his grandchildren, Alan Ice, Sarah Oznick, Adam Caplinger, Stephanie Estramira, Bailey Lewis, Jon Riley Ice, Olivia Ice, Benjamin Ice, Ashley Ice, Cameron Ice, Ilana Ice, Devon, Brantley, Tanner, Tatium, Elliott, and A.J. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jim's unwavering presence in the lives of his loved ones will be greatly missed.
