Hershel Summers, 80, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2025.
Born on April 25, 1945, in Anderson to Chester Summers and Mable O’Bryant, Hershel built a life rooted in hard work, devotion to family, and a love for the outdoors. He worked as a contractor and painter and was a proud member of the International Painters and Allied Trades Industry.
Hershel found joy in the simplest pleasures—especially anything that got him outside. He could often be found camping, fishing, riding his bike or dirt bike, or mowing his lawn—sometimes three times a week just to keep it looking perfect. If he wasn’t mowing, he was likely fixing someone’s mower with a smile and a story to share.
An outgoing man with a big heart, Hershel adored children, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids, who were the center of his world. He loved his wife, Joyce, dearly, and never missed a chance to claim neighborhood kids as his own. His legacy is one of kindness, energy, and unwavering love for family.
Hershel is survived by his children: Tracy (Lori) Summers, Hershel V. Summers, Kristy (Ed) Spencer, Carla (William) Griffin, and Sandra (Stephania) Summers; 21 grandchildren; and more than 30 great-grandchildren. As well as brother, Raymond O'Bryant.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Summers, his son, Guy Patrick Summers, and his granddaughter, Katherine Rose Robinett.
