Henry Ray Pitman, Jr

Henry Ray Pitman Jr., aged 81, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family.

Born January 29, 1945, in Somerset, Kentucky, to Henry Ray Pitman Sr. and Crystal Aileen (Crouch) Pitman, Henry carried forward a legacy of love and fidelity. Predeceased by his parents, he is fondly remembered by his surviving sisters Crystal (Steve) Abney, Cathy (the late Charlie) Blake, Lynn (Gary) Grimsley; brother Gene Pitman; and sisters-in-law Donna Pitman and Nancy Pitman. He joins his brothers Charles (Lucy) Pitman, Michael Pitman, and Edward Pitman in rest.

On April 2, 1964, Henry married Virginia Caves in Indianapolis, embarking on a 62-year journey of shared dreams and unwavering affection. Virginia, his beloved wife, remains with us, cherishing their life together.

Henry’s warmth and kindness extend through his daughters Pam (Micheal) Taylor, Tina (Tom) Seiter, his son Allen (Betty) Pitman, and the memories of his late daughter, Tammy Lou Pitman. His legacy weaves through the lives of his grandchildren: Amber Thompson, Allen (Kandace) Pitman Jr., Patrick Sturgeon, Logan (Beth) Beyersdorfer, Sarah Beyersdorfer, Emma (Jeremy) Kirchhofer, Kaylee Mitchell, and Sunny Taylor. In remembrance, we honor his late grandchildren, Andrew Taylor and Chloe Taylor.

Supported by great-grandchildren Blake Thompson, Selena Garcia, Aiden Pliego-Thompson, Elijah Sturgeon, Oliver Sturgeon, Addison Beyersdorfer, Jayden Beyersdorfer, Legend Templeton, Noah Pitman, and Charlotte Pitman, and great-great-grandchildren Charlie Thompson and Mateo Pliego-Thompson, Henry's spirit continues to nurture his growing family.

His passions found expression in the delicate world of antique car restoration, cherished rounds of golf, and lively gatherings at the bowling alley. At home, tending fish tanks and reveling in auctions’ animated ambiance, Henry embraced life with joy. Yet, it was family cookouts where his gentle, loving demeanor truly shone, forever touching the hearts of those who knew him.

Henry's enduring spirit and genuine kindness leave an unmatched legacy of love and compassion. He will be remembered as a man of grace, humility, and an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 1130a AM to 2:30 PM at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services -1604 W. Morris Street, Indianapolis, IN 46221, followed by his funeral service at 2:30 PM. Entombment will take place in the Floral Park Mausoleum.

Henry loved all animals. He loved his 2 little dogs Wilford and Trixie.  Virginia shared he would say to Trixie how beautiful her big black eyes were.  To some they are only pets, but Henry, he loved them as his own children.  It is only fitting for the family to request in lieu of flowers please donate to the ASPCA to the link below.
