Indianapolis

Glenn Edwin Kirk, of Indianapolis, passed away at home surrounded by his family on April 13, 2024, 5 days after his 73rd birthday. Glenn was born on April 8, 1951, in Indianapolis, to the late Albert and N. Marie (Harrison) Kirk. He graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1969 and received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN. While in college, Glenn attended ROTC. He received his commission in the Army on December 21, 1973, and then got married to the love of his life, Jackie, on the very next day. Glenn started his career serving in the U.S. Army, where he was an Armor Officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of service. He was stationed at Ft. Knox , Kentucky, Ft. Hood, Texas, and at Storck Barracks, Illesheim, Germany. After retirement from the Army, Glenn worked as a probation officer for 25 years for the Marion County Juvenile Correctional Facility.

Glenn’s love of Rugby is profound. He learned the game while in the Army stationed in Germany. He played for the IRFC in the early 1980’s all thru the early 2020’s. Not only did he play, but he coached it as well at Lawrence Central High School for girls and boys in the 1990’s.

Glenn was a loving and caring guy. He liked watching sports, especially the Colts and the Pacers. But most of all, Glenn loved interacting with kids thru coaching Rugby and his job at the JV center, along with his daughters, and later in life, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; along with his sister, Vicky.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 50+ years, Jacquelyn “Jackie” (Whedon) Kirk; daughters, Dawn Schrettenbrunner (James) and Heather Kirk; grandchildren, Caleb, Trae, Cassidy, Deyogi, Mikel, Camden, Caris, Chance, and Tyler; and great grandchildren, Parker and Everly.

Visitation will be from 3pm to 4pm on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue, with a service to start at 4pm at the funeral home.
