Geraldine Helen Bennett

Geraldine Helen Bennett passed away on May 23, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on August 13, 1943, in Chicago, IL to John and Chesterine Holody. In Chicago, Geraldine graduated from John Marshall Harlan Community High School in Roseland, Illinois.

She is preceded in death by her parents, listed above; daughter, Marie Kuter brothers, John “Butch” Holody and Ronald Holody; and sister, Arlene (Clarence) Pearson.

She will be remembered as a wonderful wife of 61 years, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known as “Mom” or “Grandma” to friends and family. As a bowler she was a perennial champ but also hit her mark as a pillar of the community winning a Citizen’s Leadership award for her contributions to the city of Lawrence, to which she was a resident of almost 40 years. She may have had a small stature but exuded a large personality, often befriending strangers for any ol’ reason most notably if they were part of the unique club of Left Handers. Her husband Howard would sometimes quip, “she might have used her left, but in any discussion, she was always right” Indeed, grandma left this world too soon but had her hand in making it a little more wholesome, a lot more talkative, and surely more entertaining.

Geraldine is survived by her loving husband, Howard J. Bennett Jr.; her children, Christine (Don), Howie (Amy) Bennett, Cindy (Adam) Uhlman and James Bennett; brother, Richard Holody; sister, Linda (Shep) Durden; and grandchildren, Michael, Jenifer, Hannah, Gracie, Jordan (Randy) Humek, Jackson, and Gimy Jr; great grandchildren Clayton and Abigail.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Tuesday, June 3, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service that will begin at 1:00 PM. Both services will take place at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 4650 N Shadeland Avenue, Lawrence, IN.
