Indianapolis – George David Wright, 70, passed away on August 3, 2024. Born on May 18, 1954, he was the youngest of six children born to John A. and Mary Alice Wright. He graduated from Shortridge H.S., where he enjoyed performing in the Madrigal Choir. He attended both I.U. and Purdue before his love of nature and adventure drew him westward, where he became an ARTA whitewater rafting guide on several western rivers. Sharing his passion for nature was Kathy Smith, the mother of his two daughters. George lived in California for most of his adult life, working as a general contractor. He loved camping and kayaking, always accompanied by his beloved dog. Performing with the Oakland Gospel Choir and singing Karaoke in local California pubs brought him much joy. Four years ago, he returned to Indiana. He loved Face-timing with his daughters and grandchildren. Family and friends will remember him for his intelligence, his creativity, and his delightful sense of humor.
He is survived by his two daughters: Kelcey Pavlocak and her three daughters of Virginia; and Lia Exner (Scott) and their daughter and son of California. Mourning his loss are sisters Betsy Wood (Tom) and Nancy Shipman (Mike) and his brothers Jim Wright and John Wright (Mary Ann), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Anne Harvey (Gene).
A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, October 5th at 4:00PM at the Woodlands HOA - 10700 Lakeshore Drive, East - Carmel, IN 46033. Flowers may be sent directly to the home of Nancy Shipman.
