George Michael Reneau

July 1, 1960 — June 1, 2026

Indianapolis

George “Mike” Michael Reneau, 65, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on July 1, 1960, in Martinsville, Indiana, Mike lived a life defined by hard work, compassion, humor, and dedication to those he loved most.

Mike began his career working alongside his father at Reneau Electric, where he developed the strong work ethic and pride in craftsmanship that would guide him throughout his life. He later worked for 11 years at Butler University before joining the IBEW Local 481, where he spent 25 years as a respected electrician and mentor to countless apprentices and coworkers. One of Mike’s proudest traditions was helping light Monument Circle in Indianapolis each Christmas for the past 23 years, bringing joy and holiday spirit to families throughout the community.

Outside of work, Mike found happiness in the simple things he loved most — bowling, coaching sports, taking drives in his Jeep or four-wheeler, and walking along the beach in the early morning while listening to music. Above all else, Mike cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought endless pride and happiness to his life.

Known for his unforgettable “dad jokes,” warm smile, and generous heart, Mike had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and offer support when it was needed most.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Dawn Lola Reneau; his children, Corey, Haley, Shaun, and Dylan; his beloved grandchildren, Connor, Micheal, Kenden, Mya, Joshua, Liberty, Kendall, Rylan, Skylar, Cole, and Braylan; and sisters Pam, Rose, Tammi and Lisa.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mikey Reneau.

Mike’s legacy of kindness, laughter, mentorship, and love will continue to live on through all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A memorial service will be held on June 10, 2026, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, in 46226. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with service at 5:00 p.m.

In honor of Mike and his love for the Hawaiian spirit, we invite those attending his funeral to wear Hawaiian-themed clothing or bright tropical attire if they feel comfortable doing so. It was one of Mike's favorite styles and a reflection of the joy, warmth, and personality he brought to those around him. While traditional funeral attire is certainly welcome, wearing Hawaiian clothing would be a meaningful way to celebrate Mike's life and remember him with a touch of the happiness he shared with others.
