Forrest E Hines Jr, age 55, of Indianapolis, IN died unexpectedly at his home on June 9th, 2022. He was born June 9, 1967 in Indianapolis to the late Forrest E Hines Sr and Linda (Martin) Hines.
Forrest joined the United States Army in November 1984, at the young age of 17. He proudly served until his honorable discharge in November 1987. He also served in the Army Reserve for several years after his discharge from the Army.
Forrest worked a variety of jobs after he left the Army, but his real passion was helping other Veterans. Forrest participated in multiple support groups offered by the Indianapolis VA Hospital, where, according to his counselors, he made a significant impact on the lives of many of his fellow service members. VA staff praised Forrest for his support, helpfulness, and kindness. Currently an effort is underway to create a group for Vets Supporting Vets. The program leader is specifically modeling the group after Forrest’s work and actions.
Forrest is survived by daughter Nicole Hartwell, sister Pam Holman (Kenneth), Aunt Carolyn Hankins (James), niece Brandi Elliott (Brandon), grandchildren Lennox and Noelle, great-nephew Brody, and great-niece Brooklyn. He is also survived by many cousins, several who loved Forrest as a brother; George Tate, Mark Tate, Steven Tate, and Douglas Martin.
A service to honor Forrest’s life, his service to his country and his support of his Veteran community is being held at the Indiana War Memorial in Spruance Hall on Thursday, June 16th at 9:00 AM. The service is open to the public.
