Ervin Layne Jr. a devoted Christian and loving father passed away on July 19, 2024, at the age of 65 in Anderson, IN. Born on September 26, 1958, in Virginia, Ervin's life was a testament to the power of faith and redemption.

Survived by his children, Alecia Cowart, Adam (Camy) Layne, Amber Layne, and son-in-law and in heart Joshua Cowart. Ervin's greatest joy was his family. He cherished his six grandchildren; Gavin Johns, Cameron Cowart, Kenzie Cowart, Zepplyn Cowart, Caden Layne, Chance Pruitt; great-grandchildren, Tatum, and Cudi Johns. He is also survived by his siblings Jennifer Snellenburger, Charlie Cook, Jimmy Tanksley, Cheryl Yost, all from Anderson; Charlotte Prater and Kim (Darrell) Estep from North Carolina; Gary (Sharon) Shafer from Hurley, VA; Rhonda (Charlie) Goad from Blackstone VA; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ervin's life was not without its challenges, but his unwavering commitment to his Christian faith guided him through lifes ups and downs. He loved sharing his wisdom and insights with others, often saying, "What I don't know would fit in a thimble, and I'm working on emptying that!" His infectious laugh and ability to connect with children of all ages will be deeply missed.

A special mention goes to the mother of his children, Linda Cross, with whom he shared a complex but enduring relationship. Ervin's love for his children knew no bounds, and he often joked about wanting 100 kids!

Ervin was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Cook; father, Ervin Layne Sr.; stepmother Pauline Layne; sister Melody; brother Jerry Shafer; and special friend Allyson Farren.
