Eric James Rice

Eric James Rice, 59, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 16, 2026. He was born on January 6, 1967, in Danville, IN. Eric graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1985. He was on the wrestling team in high school and worked at a couple of bowling alleys. After high school, he worked for Cameron Electric. Eric started his IT career with Zimmer Paper Products, later to be called ZCMP (Zimmer Custom Made Packaging). When the company changed hands, he went back to school and received his associates degree in IT from Ivy Tech in 2012. Eric then became self employed as a web developer and also worked at Hindel Bowl.

Eric liked camping and being outdoors. He liked bowling and joined a couple of leagues with his sons when they became old enough. Eric loved fishing at Lake Monroe and Lake Cumberland and would go whenever he could. When he went to Florida for vacation, he always had to go fishing as well. One time, he caught a shark, while fishing from the shore, and ate it even though he wasn’t certain if he was allowed to. And it wasn’t just fishing, Eric loved fish in general. He had a 150-gallon salt-water tank and a 75-gallon fresh-water tank, both full of fish. He even had a koi pond in his yard. Eric also liked the Colts, but he loved the Reds. Eric and his brother, Mike Jr., attended the World Series in 1990 to watch his beloved Reds.

Eric is preceded in death by his brother, Micheal Rice Jr.; and sister, Tana Michelle.

He is survived by his sons, Lance Rice and Lucas Rice; father, Michael Rice Sr.; mother, Mary (Boyette) Ball; former wife, Michelle Rice; along with many extended family members and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 1pm on Saturday, February 21st at Maple Creek Country Club, 10501 E. 21st Street, with a gathering time starting at 12noon. Cremation arrangements provided by Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Lawrence.
