Elaine Wood

Elaine D. Wood, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026. Born on April 7, 1953, in Indianapolis, She was the daughter of the late Howard and Dorothy (Veatch) Mills. Elaine graduated from Warren Central High School in 1971. She dedicated herself to her family. As a devoted wife, loving mother, and homemaker, Elaine also explored various careers throughout her life. Her love extended to her husband , children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her siblings, whom she cherished dearly. She was delighted in witnessing her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow . She was known for her loving caring personality and willingness to help others. Elaine also displayed humor into her conversations making others smile and laugh. She enjoyed attending lunch bunch with her friends , outings and trips with her family . Preceding her in death were her parents Howard and Dorothy (Veatch) Mills, son Dennis Wood II, and grandchildren Austin Wood and Christopher Wood-Hall.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Dennis Wood; children Heather Birge and husband Andy Birge, April Green and husband Michael Green , Natalie Silver and husband Steven Silver, and Edward Wood. Also Jennifer Wood daughter in law.

Grandchildren Ashley Wood, Alexander Wood, Asaiah Green, Damon Birge, Madison Birge, Holly Wood, and Dennis Wood III.

Great-grandchildren Lakora Abel-Raymond, Konstance Wood, and Josyah-Abel Raymond.

Siblings Dean Mills, Eric Mills (Chandra), Janet Shelton (Doug) .

She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. She volunteered with the Gabriels Project and served as a Sunday Bible school teacher . She was an active member in the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter NSDAR since 2007, including on the board of management. She served as First Vice Regent, chapter house secretary and National Defense chair. She enjoyed serving her community with the Daughters of the American Revolution.
