Eddie Paul Beagles Jr.

March 4, 1971 — March 22, 2023

Indianapolis, IN

Eddie P. Beagles Jr., CFSP, 52, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2023.  He was born on March 4, 1971, in Roswell, NM to Eddie Sr. and Betty Beagles. Eddie graduated from Robert H. Goddard High School, Roswell, NM in 1989.  He also attended the Eastern New Mexico University and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in the early 90’s.  Eddie was also a graduate of The University of St. Francis in the education for ministry program, Loyola University in the Pope Paul VI Institute, along with the Insight Institute as a certified funeral celebrant and the American Institute of Healthcare Professionals as a pet loss grief recovery specialist.

Eddie moved from New Mexico to Chicago in the early 90’s and worked in the hospitality industry. It was 2004, when Eddie decided to join the funeral industry and attend Worsham College of Mortuary Science while working as a staff assistant at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home.  Eddie graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2005, and moved to Columbia City, IN to work for DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home.  It was there that he performed his internship and started his funeral directing career.  While he was in Columbia City, he was also very involved in the community: President of Columbia City Community Tree Board, Member of Columbia City Redevelopment Commission, St. Paul of the Cross Parish Council Member, Building/Fundraising Committee Member, and an 8th grade Confirmation Mentor.  He was a member of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association, along with being on the Board of Directors as District #3 Director, on the Meeting Planning Committee and the By-Laws Committee.  In 2008, Eddie was named one of Northeast Indiana’s Future 40 by Upstate Indiana Magazine.

In 2011, Eddie, along with his partner, Richard Marchbanks, relocated to Indianapolis, IN to start working for Flanner Buchanan as the Managing Director of Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services.  He helped grow the Legacy Brand to what it is today, 2 locations in Indianapolis and 1 location in Anderson, along with creating the Star Cremation brand and relocating Flanner Buchanan’s care center and crematory to its’ current location at 2020 Montcalm Street.  Eddie was still very involved in the Indianapolis community: President of the Indy Rainbow Chamber of Commerce and a board member since 2013, Chairman of the Bates-Hendricks Neighborhood Association fundraising committee, member of the Westside Community Development Corporation, and the Marion County Funeral Directors Association,   Eddie is also a member of Pi Sigma Eta, Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice, British Institute of Embalmers and the American Society of Embalmers, and the Indiana Funeral Directors Association  and National Funeral Directors Association.

In his free time, Eddie loved cooking, camping, and traveling.  He frequented his favorite spot downtown, Olly’s, to have fun spending time with his friends.  Eddie also loved relaxing at home with Richard and their 2 pups, Winston and Wrigsby.  He was a stranger to none and a friend to all, and will truly missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Beagles; and his aunt, Zora Lykens.

Eddie is survived by his partner of 26 years, Richard Marchbanks; father, Eddie Beagles, Sr.; sister, Carla Miller; and brother, TJ Smith.
